The Ghost of Tom Joad
This is a music video of Rage Against The Machine's "The Ghost of Tom Joad." The video was made with Resolume and Sony Vegas 6.0. The video takes the storyline of the song, which is based off of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, and adds old footage of the dust bowl. It also follows the theme of Tom Joad looking over the poor farmers that were abused by the system. The video is mixed in the end to give more meaning to the suffering of the farmers of that time. Take a look at it here.

An almost too minimal, restrained match-up of Tom Joad-inspired song and video. FX, frequently very abstracting of the source content, are the only thing contemporary to update the visual content. Check out DJ Spooky's "Re-Birth of a Nation" for some ideas about how to work with vintage, even iconic, visual content.
